Max Social Innovations Foundation has tied up with Metro Shoes for the Discarded Old Footwear Project

ODF Project: Transforming waste into resources.

• The ODF project transforms waste into resources, protecting our environment and conserving natural resources.
• The ODF project ensures discarded footwear does not end up in landfills or water bodies.

There are 3 steps to the process

1. Collection

• Collection: Discarded footwear is gathered through partnerships with dry waste collection centers, apartment complexes, and schools or colleges
• We have launched the initiative in Bosch Bangalore including their subsidiary Rexroth Bosch, as one of the corporate sponsors for the collection drive.

2. Aggregation

• Aggregation: The collected footwear is transported to an aggregation unit for storage.

3 Sorting and Processing

• Sorting and Processing: Rag pickers sort the footwear, segregating it into bins containing plastic, rubber, metal, and upper materials.

4. Recycling

• Recycling: The sorted plastic and rubber materials are sent to recyclers to be processed and reintroduced into the economy as raw materials.

5. Co-processing

• Co-processing: Non-recyclable materials are sent to kilns to be used as fuel, generating energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
